We are looking for a Junior to Intermediate Accountant who is confident managing their own workload, detail-oriented, and eager to grow into a Senior Accountant role.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Complete GST returns and other Inland Revenue compliance requirements
  • Prepare income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, trusts, and companies
  • Review and reconcile general ledger accounts, including bank and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Work with client-provided data in CSV and PDF formats, including bank statement analysis
  • Assist clients with accounting software such as Xero or MYOB
  • Manage day-to-day client communication and respond to queries in a timely and professional manner
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records in accounting and practice management systems
  • Prepare draft tax returns, GST statements, depreciation schedules, and financial reports for review
  • Support year-end compliance processes, including annual reports and company documentation
  • Monitor outstanding client requirements and proactively follow up to ensure deadlines are met
  • Ensure all work complies with New Zealand accounting and tax regulations
  • Identify basic tax planning opportunities and escalate complex matters to senior staff
  • Contribute to process improvements and overall team efficiency
  • Perform additional tasks as required to support the team and operations

What We’re Looking For:

  • 2–5 years’ experience in public practice accounting with NZ and AU clients
  • Strong understanding of New Zealand tax regulations (GST, PAYE, income tax; FBT exposure is a plus)
  • Proficiency in Xero or similar accounting systems
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy in financial work
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A proactive, client-focused mindset with a willingness to learn and grow
  • Working towards a CPA qualification is preferred but not essential

Why Join Us?

  • Clear pathway for progression to Senior Accountant
  • Support for CPA studies, including study leave where applicable
  • Exposure to New Zealand clients and international accounting standards
